CUCG Ireland Christmas Edition 2023

The final Citrix User Group of the year was held yesterday in Dublin, in the Spencer hotel a change in venue and also a very different city location and the venue worked well, with an excellent room and busy bar after with some networking food n beers.

We had the usual mix of presentations, from Citrix updates to deep dives and we had a special guest to bring us home in style, with a presentation that delivered years of wisdom, lessons learned and a great deal of humor.

First up we had and Wendy’s team with a super Citrix update session that gave us insights and sneak peek into some tech previews coming our way.

Wendy and Javier ran through some of the on prem SPA features ,AWS workspace tech preview stuff.

Followed by Anton with some Networking updates around using NetScaler ADM to protect and update your NetScaler’s.

Ronan O’Brian Mr. NetScaler himself stared to dive a bit deeper into WAF and some of the latest updates that is based around the NetScaler gateway.

Gavin Strong bringing the Citrix session to an end with an update on UPM and the new features making it a true contender for the best Citrix profile solution.

Steve Horne was a late addition to the agenda a with a quick and very informative presentation on some exciting news in relation to MSIX – App Attach – CVAD. Citrix will now support it natively to deliver applications via studio, very neat stuff and should be with us some time before Q1 next year in cloud but should make it’s way into the Q4 on prem release.

Next up just before coffee we had our sponsor session from Runecast, who rang through their product which will scan your VMware infrastructure and report on various CVE compliance and and also some of the latest health of finance regulations. Which would be useful if you are wondering if you are in finance and are thinking about DORA legislation. The product is totally un intrusive and works in total read only mode so it’s not going to break anything. It does produce very detailed reports and provides you with all the scrips for remediation.

Kicking us off after coffee we and Shane O’Neill and Micheal O’Dea with another highly knowledgeable presentation on getting started with Infrastructure As Code in EUC for dummies, this is interesting stuff and really showed the value if putting a bit of effort in up front to really make your image build seamless and effort less as you progress with a repeatable re useable process. Excellent session lads !

Bringing us to a close we and Doug Brown, a guy who I have know for a while and followed throughout my time in EUC, from the days at Citrix through online web site DABCC ,to building the Igel community. He is now building another community over at ControUP.

Check it out here

Doug brought his unique presentation style to a very entraining final presentation of the day “12 Lessons That Changed My Life” each one with a great story and his journey in tech joining many dots that seemed scattered, but looking back all make seance. Defiantly my highlight of the day he had the room in stitches throughout.

When I have gathered the presentations I will link them below.

Thanks to all attended you help make this event possible and highly enjoyable, hope to see you all in 2024 for some more hot topics and trend withing EUC
