CUGC – Q4 2019 Review

The final CUGC event of 2019 was held in the Google offices in Dublin at the end of last year. With the holidays and a hectic January (which included trips to Citrix Summit in Florida, Frame EUC Summit in Belgrade finishing with IGEL Disrupt last month), it has taken until now for me to pen this review!

As usual, there was a packed agenda for the Irish CUGC consisting of CTP’s, a CTA and a few of the Technologists team from Citrix, a really great set of presenters and a great sponsor, Google who provided the venue and networking nibbles & drinks. It’s always nice to have a change of venue and the Google buildings are fairly cool in the heart of the city.

First up was Wendy and her team of Technologists who ran through a comprehensive presentation on “Using Citrix Workspace on GCP”. All the way from starting out, provisioning a GCP account to getting your first workload up on GCP.

Google followed up with some interesting insights from some senior management on where they see the relationship with GCP & Citrix and also how the Chrome Books play into the BYOD story which resonates so well with Citrix’s work form anywhere on any device mantra. Benjamin then went through the more technical aspects of GCP and where it could fit with EUC workloads.

Shane O’Neill then gave us all a deep dive into Powershell and Citrix Cloud Services; showing how, with some simple commands you can take care of some of the more repetitive administrative tasks. And of course, with a lot of the work Shane does, its all available FREE to the community on citrixtips.com

Bringing us to a close with (as usual) a very entertaining and engaging presentation on usability v security and how to #@%& hackers without #@%*ing your users from CTP and self-professed newshound, James Rankin. If you haven’t already you should definitely check out his blog at jamesrankin.com .

It wouldn’t be a community networking event if we didn’t round off the evening with a few networking drinks, swapping war stories form the trenches and picking one another’s brains.  Google really put on a nice spread which we all really enjoyed especially the red wine which when it was ran through Vivino and word got around how good it was, it disappeared very quickly!

DataSolutions’, Mark McGrath was running round with the video camera getting a few attendees thoughts and has put together a great video of the event for your enjoyment and to get an idea of what can be expected at our next event being held in the Radisson Blue on the 25th March.
